Meeting - 29th May 2013

29th May 2013 - First meeting with my supervisors, Prof. Liz Bacon and Prof. Lachlan MacKinnon.  We started late because of several mix ups, but Lachlan explained what was required and pointed me towards the work of Terry Mayes.   He pointed out that the idea of atomising learning was not new and that there were standards for IEEE LOM and SCORM.   I don't think I got my point across that there was more to my proposal than just breaking down the learning.  Lachlan brought up several other useful points that I should examine; learning styles vs learning strategies (see the PhD of Sophie Peter), cognitivism and social constructivism, learning models, learning maturity, pedagogy vs andragogy (the socratic exchange), heutadogy (learner centric), the need to learn how to read (part of the pre-course), the theories of Rousseau, Piaget and Vygotsky (zone of proximal development).  He also stressed that a survey type paper should be produced in the first year.   I should email the application form I completed to Liz ASAP - this was done as soon as I got back to my office.   I MUST also remember to take a voice recorder with me to the next meeting! Look at the difference between the notes for this meeting and the ones produced for 11th July 2013.
